Rugrats

I really quite like the name I've given this photo shoot. 'Rugrats' is so cheeky but kind of innocent when I think back to the cartoon, and that is what I was aiming for, tough clothes but with a quirky little element. I styled this shoot with the idea of gals throwing on what they like, having fun with it, while simultaneously looking pretty hot and reeking havoc around town. I like to think I'm all about exploring, but maaah it's something i'm aiming for. This was a photo shoot I did with a friend, her ace little photography business is here.

Photographs with Moving Eyes

There's some mystery about scouring through aged and untouched photo albums, turning the delicate, sepia filled pages of photographs. I have spent hours looking at my Grandma's photographs, often not knowing who the old timers are that saturate the pages, questioning, but also admiring them. The women and their perfect pin curls and classic beauty and the men, looking, well, like men.

Above is a photo I chanced upon and scanned into my computer. While it was in my Grandma's collection of photographs, neither me nor any of my family can identify anyone in the picture. It's mysterious, and kind of creepy, but so damn cool. It's curious that at sometime in my family history these people were relevant, and that now we don't have a clue who they are, or even where they are. How they led a separate life, and probably still have family somewhere along the line now. These people in the photograph meant enough to someone to conserve their photograph, and it ended up in my hands. 

Moschino Cheap and Chic

The SS 13 Moschino Cheap and Chic show was once again a girlish fantasia, complete with pineapple print and itsy bitsy embellishments.

The light hearted and always playful pieces of the line made many a front rower smile, including that of Alexa Chung and Daisy Lowe. My absolutely favourite piece was the pair of trouser dungarees. In fact, I have been fixated on every pair I have seen at the fashion weeks, on the runway and on the street. The creativity has really shone through the many variations of dungarees, a play on the classic piece you run round the beach rabid in, the clacking buckles and washed out denim. 

Button up jackets were also among my favourites, inspiring maybe a little diy on an old denim jacket of mine (suede patches me thinks?).

The jackets were teamed with flattering girlish pieces, played up with quirky touches including laced up trainers.

The Moschino show also celebrates the almighty trouser suit, mixed up in vibrant orange and green. With a 60's influence, other pieces included flared trousers, mini skirts and sweaters. I always look forward to the Cheap and Chic show, and it definitely delivered!

 Oooh and I streamed the Topshop Unique show at 3pm today. Its new interactive experience made it feel as if you we're sat front row..... but actually I was at home in my pj's eating yoghurt. More on that soon!

New York Fashion Week

While summer may just be coming to a close (boohoohoo, goodbye hot pants) and autumn beginning, we've been seeing 2013's spring/summer shows kick off in New York and all of the industries big shots take their seats. I'll be hopefully doing a roundup of each fashion week, the odd report for shows that personally stand out for me (Meadham Kirchoff Show on Tuesday, honestly can't wait) and one big overall trend report, followed up with an illustrated trend guide.

After a winter with its fair share of harsh, statement prints and colour we're greeted with a picnic of toned back, chilled out shades. And while fun prints still very much remain, carried through to yet another season (not tediously, just in a super power punch way that a good print doesn't loose its momentum) they're less in your face and calmed down. A little more kid friendly. A little gingham goes a long way, as seen at Tory Burch and Creatures of the Wind, among others.

White seems to be a big player for next season also. It's pure, simpleness about it just works in an outfit, although it's still cool with a tough edge, not too girly, but could be if paired with for example, a pastel checked pair of ankle grazers to sweeten it up. 

Through New York Fashion week I've picked up on a lot of clean, minimal lines, but still with a quirky element. A lot of the clothes seem practical, wearable and adventure ready. A sort of 'throw me on and go' vibe, to match the models tousled or simple slicked back and out of the way hair style. How the clothes hang, fit and flow are so skillfully put together, that they make you want to go out and explore, and seem that little more fitting with the wind flowing through them. I'm definitely planning on buying some form of anorak for explorations in the april showers next year!

You can already start to see a few trends developing, alongside many of the designers thang that they do best. Our great British dose of fashion is almost upon us with London fashion week, which of course is my favourite! I love the Newgen shows and will be streaming a few of them for the Topshop Show Space. This is just an itsy bitsy little set I made on polyvore to start to insprire me on an up and coming photoshoot I'm doing. The inspiration is from 1950's prom but a really crazy and eccentric vibe. It's so over the top its almost tasteless, and the overall message is to indulge. I've emailed a retro sweetshop to ask if we can shoot there, fingers crossed they say yes! And our model has an amazing mass of blonde, ringlet curley hair..... and I cannot wait to get my hands on it (blue hair spray me thinks).

 Every self respecting 90's kid should own a pair of jelly shoes. I for one, never actually grew up. So here are my new jelly shoes in all their plastic glory. I scored these bad boys from urban outfitters in the sale for £10. They'll last me pretty much forever so all that's left now is to wear them. I have la la loved jelly shoes for a while now and I saw some in river island but wasn't too into them. And I'm into plastic things now! You've seen my new purse in the last post and also I'm thinking of starting up my own Etsy with accessories revolving around this fabulous material. It will probably be around this winter time after some research and practise.

I can see myself having many happy days in these bright little foot things, prancing about as if I'm 6 again on the beach.

On Friday night I visited Sheffield Hallam University to see their graduate fashion show with a few others from my school to research a sustainable fashion project I'm leading. I still think I'm writing my old blog and assume everybody knows who I am, but for you new people, I'm the mardy looking chica with the blonde hair, red bag and big hair bow in the photo.


They put on a good show, and to give it more of an urban feel held it in their car park and had a good looking, funky thing of a dj for us to feast our eyes on. There was some beautiful shapes and I came away feeling quite inspired, this being my first catwalk show if you don't count the clothes show.


Oooh and I hope you people are enjoying the jubilee holiday so far, I've made my share of adapted union jack buns and yesterday visited a 1950s theme market and street party!
